Micromax Canvas Knight A350 Initial Review

The much awaited Micromax phone of the year, the Canvas Knight has been launched by Micromax at a very competitive price of Rs.19,999. The Canvas Knight had created quite a buzz before its launch mainly due to the fact that it was to be the first ever octa-core phone from Micromax. And micromax did not disappoint us.......

DESIGN

The design of this phone is really impressive. Its sports a unibody design. The phone is pretty thin at just 7.7mm and has a fine looking aluminium edge. It has a hardened glass back which gives it a premium touch.

Seems to have picked up a few design elements from the iPhone. The phone does not have any buttons on the left edge. The power lock and unlock button and the volume rockers are present on the right edge. A 3.5 mm jack on top. The phone has just a single speaker present beside the microphone and the charging and data sync port. We had expected a dual speaker system though. Its dimensions are 144x70x7.7 mm. It weighs 154 grams with battery which is neither light nor heavy, just about perfect.

DISPLAY

The Canvas Knight is a winner when it comes to display. It sports a 5 inch Full-HD (1080 x 1920 pixels) IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass 2. IPS display from micromax have always been stunning and this one is no exception with a pixel per inch density of 441ppi. IPS diplays guarantee true colors (not over saturated like Amoled displays) and they consume less power too. Its the first FHD display phone from micromax.

MEMORY, STORAGE and OPERATING SYSTEM

This phones comes with android version 4.2.2 which is an old version of android. We did expect it to have KitKat out of the box. This is disappointing when u consider the fact that this phone is meant to be a flagship model for the biggest Indian phone maker.
It has got a 32gb ROM where 5.5 gb is preoccupied by the OS and other preloaded applications. Hence there is just 1.5gb available for apps and 25 gb for mass storage. Unfortunately there is no expandable storage available. This will prove to be a disappointment for those who like keeping a lot of multimedia and HD games on their phone.
The Knight comes with 2gb of RAM (DDR2) which ensures snappy performance and ease of gaming.

PERFORMANCE

This Beast is powered by an MT6592T Octa-Core Processor clocked at a frequency of 2GHz and a Mali-450MP GPU along with 2gb of RAM, a combination that will ensure seamless performance that can easily handle any HD game on the planet. It can play full HD videos with ease.

CAMERA

The rear camera is an Auto-Focus 16 mega-pixel shooter and is equipped with an LED flash while the front camera is an 8 mega-pixel Fixed-Focus shooter.
The rear camera has a BSI sensor for better low-light imaging.
The Canvas Knight becomes the only phone with such a camera configuration below 20k in the Indian market.
Note : This phone sports a camera feature which no other Micromax phone has had, the Photosphere.
All thanks to the Gyroscope sensor which makes this possible.
The phone is also capable of recording 1080p FHD videos at 30fps.

BATTERY

The battery is an average 2350 mAh Li-Po battery with a stand-by time of 175 hrs and a talk-time of 7.5 hours. Not powerful enough to power an octa-core phone with 2 gb ram. Still we believe it should keep the phone alive throughout the day.

OTHERS

The Canvas Knight is a Dual Sim phone that supports micro sims. The phone has a light sensor, magnetic sensor, gyroscope sensor, gravity sensor and a proximity sensor. The phone is available in 3 colours, Full Black, Black and Gold, White and Gold. This phone has HSDPA 21+ mbps.

FINAL THOUGHT

At a price of Rs.19,999 the phone seems to be a steal deal. With all the punch that it packs in and at a reasonable price, it seems to be a clear winner over the competition. The only drawback is the battery. We wished it to be above 3500 mAh.
